Like all early birds, ABB established its first China presence in Hong Kong in 1974 to exploit this large potential market. In the following two decades, ABB companies in Hong Kong played an important role in bringing our technologies to fuel the industrialization of China. In 1994, ABB relocated its China headquarter from Hong Kong to Beijing.
The creation of a customer-centric organization calls for consolidation of our operations in Hong Kong. As of January 2002, four companies ABB Holding Ltd., ABB Transmission & Distribution Ltd., ABB Automation Ltd. and ABB Industry and Building Systems Ltd. were merged into ABB (Hongkong) Ltd. serving customers and channel partners in Hong Kong with complete ABB portfolio.
