2005-01-24 - "Made in ABB" strategy helps win major delivery to Singapore
Beijing, China, January 24, 2005 - ABB said today it would supply power transformers from its Chongqing factory to Singapore as part of a $22 million order awarded by the SP PowerAssets.
"This is a breakthrough order, the first export of transformers from China," noted Bernd Muehe, head of ABB's Power Technologies business in China. "We strongly believe that our products, whether they are made in China or elsewhere, are of the highest quality. This underlines our 'Made in ABB' strategy."
ABB sourced a quotation from its Chongqing team with support from ABB in Sweden, Singapore and Switzerland to deliver the most competitive tender. Subsequently, ABB was called in for tender clarification, which included a quality audit by SP PowerGrid at ABB's Chongqing factory in August 2004.
Under the terms of the contract, ABB will deliver five three-phase banks of 400/230/66 kV167MVA autotransformers from ABB Chongqing and two units of three-phase, 400 kV 100 MVA shunt reactors banks from ABB Ludvika in Sweden, alongside power cables and ancillary equipment and accessories.

Considered one of the most modern transformer factories in the world, ABB's company located in the southwest of China has also been honored to deliver transformers to the Three Gorges project.
