ABB signs MoU with Chinese province

Two sides expands cooperation on transportation, energy efficiency, and industrial modernization

Guangzhou, China, August 2, 2013 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation with a Chinese delegation from the Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province. The agreement calls for both parties to deepen their cooperation on transportation, energy efficiency, and industrial upgrade. The Chinese delegation to ABB headquarters in Switzerland was led by Hu Chunhua, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and CPC Guangdong Secretary.



According to the MoU, ABB will further strengthen its research initiatives in Guangdong province, including the establishment of the ABB R&D Center for Railway Transportation System and Application Center for Industrial Robotics, to support the province’s industrial modernization strategy. ABB will also participate in the construction of green railways with leading technologies and experience in the field to provide green power solutions for inter-city trains, metros, & light rail projects to help Guangdong advance the development of mass public transportation infrastructure.

In addition, ABB aims to provide its leading energy management & distributed energy supply systems (EMS&DES), building automation systems (BAS), and other solutions for building smart cities to facilitate green urbanization in the province. The company will also extend cooperation during the planning and construction of smart cities and industrial parks in Guangdong.

Since the first Guangdong Economic Development International Consultative Conference held in 1999, ABB has served as a member of the Advisory Council, offering insights into the region’s long-term development. In 2006, the two parties signed a strategic five-year agreement to help local enterprises improve energy efficiency.

ABB has established 6 factories, 3 service branches, and 1 service station, with more than 2,000 employees, in Guangdong province. ABB participated in China’s West-to-East power transmission projects, including the Xiluodu-Guangdong and Nuozhadu-Guangdong hydropower DC transmission lines and several railway lines in Guangdong.
