ABB’s participation at WFES 2010 ends on a high note

2010-01-21 - ABB concluded its participation at the World Future Energy Summit 2010 in Abu Dhabi, UAE on a strong note. ABB's unique mix of green and productivity-enhancing technologies and solutions were showcased during the four day event through exhibits, face-to-face and round-table discussions and a host of info-packed presentations.

Energy efficiency was still high on ABB’s agenda on the final days of the show. ABB’s chief technology officer, Peter Terwiesch, joined GE and Austin Energy at the exhibitor seminar to shine the light on 'The Role of the Consumer in Ensuring Smart Grid Reaches its Potential'.

During his presentation, Terwiesch revealed that approximately 80% of energy is lost from primary energy production down through power generation and distribution for commercial and residential use. He then went on to reveal how ABB products, solutions and services can help increase energy efficiency by 20-30% percent in each stage of the energy value chain.

Terwiesch also showed audience members major reference projects such as ABB's large-scale smart grid for the Royal Seaport district in Sweden and the ABB's energy-efficient power and propulsion system, which is currently being used by the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, the largest and most spectacular cruise ship ever built.

Focus on ABB's offerings for solar power plants

On the last day of the show Sony Thampi, sales and service manager for ABB’s Power Generation unit, took to the stage to talk about the importance of solar power and highlight ABB’s offerings for electrification and automation in solar power plants. Thampi also highlighted ABB’s solar projects for in Europe such as the 100-megawatt Andasol I and 2 in the Sierra Nevada of southern Spain - Europe’s first large-scale solar energy plant.

ABB showcased at the World Future Energy Summit 2010 cutting edge technology and solutions that meet today's energy and sustainability challenges while reducing environmental impact and at the same time enhancing industries' performances.
