ABB is launching its 2005 international photo competition, and if you can take a picture, you can participate. All entries must be in by the deadline of October 12, 2005.
Industries we serve: automotive, cement, minerals and mining, chemical industries, commercial and industrial buildings, consumer industries, electric industries, foundry, gas utilities, life sciences, logistic systems, marine and turbocharging, metals and foundry, oil and gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, power generation, printing, pulp and paper, railway, refining, system integrators, tele and data communication and water utilities.

How would you photograph this?
Photographers are invited to take pictures anywhere in the world that depict ABB's key corporate themes:
· Power grid reliability
· Energy savings
· Increased industrial productivity
We welcome innovative photographic interpretations of these themes. For further details, see the entry form.
What we will do with the winning photos?
The winning photographs will be used to communicate and promote ABB's key themes in all of our printed materials, on our ABB internet and intranet websites, and in our media library. ABB will have unrestricted use of the images.
What would you get?
Each winning photograph will be awarded US$ 500.
In addition, there will be an overall winner in each of the three categories (Power grid reliability, Energy savings, and Increased industrial productivity). The overall winner in each category will be awarded an additional US$ 1000.
Photographers' work will be fully credited.
Photo competition organizers
1. The organizers of the photo competition are ABB Ltd, Corporate Communications.
2. The competition is open to all persons including affiliates and employees of ABB companies.
3. ABB employees involved in the organization of the competition are not able to participate.
Entrants
1. Must be 18 years or over as of April 1, 2005.
2. Participants can submit one or more photographs per category. A total of three images may be entered. No image may be entered in more than one category.
Format
1. Images can be a landscape or portrait format featuring outdoor or indoor scenes.
2. Images can be black & white or color.
3. Print photographs must be supplied as un-mounted prints, no larger than A3 or smaller than A5. Images should be printed on photo quality paper, and on a printer of suitable quality for reproduction. Transparencies will not be accepted.
4. Digital photographs must be supplied as high-resolution jpeg or tif formats, no smaller than 4 megapixels or larger than 5 megapixels. Digital photos must be submitted on a PC compatible CD ROM.
5. Please specify in which category (Power grid reliability, Energy savings, and Increased industrial productivity) you would like each image to be entered.
6. Up to three images may be entered. No image may be entered in more than one category. The judges reserve the right to re-categorize any entry.
7. We will accept one entry per person (maximum three images). Further entries will be disqualified.
Image labeling
1. The entrant's name, address and daytime telephone number (together with the category; title or description of photograph; and date when it was taken) must be written on an adhesive label and attached to the back of each the photograph.
2. If submitting a digital photo, please use a PC compatible CD ROM and include your name, address and daytime telephone number on the CD ROM cover/label. The electronic files on the CD must also be labeled with your name and the category of the subject.
Shipping
1. Please make sure prints and CD ROMs are securely protected for shipping.
2. Each image must be correctly labeled.
3. The package must include: labeled photographs/CD ROMS; completed model release forms where applicable; and a completed entry form.
By entering the competition, entrants
1. Warrant to ABB that they own the work submitted, that the whole copyright in the work is vested in them, that they have not in any way encumbered their right to deal with the ownership of the work and the copyright therein by assignment, license or otherwise, and that if the work was commissioned for private and domestic purposes, it is submitted with the permission of the person who commissioned it.
2. Warrant that they have obtained the appropriate model releases from persons featured in their submitted photographs. They must submit model release forms with their images. Model release forms are available to download on the photo competition's website: www.abb.com/photocompetition. If a model release form is not included, your entry will be disqualified.
3. Agree that their work may be reproduced by ABB. Winners agree to allow ABB to publish their photographs in electronic or print format for advertising or promotional purposes without additional payment.
4. Accepts that their entry will not be returned to them.
Notification
1. Winners and commended photographers will be notified in October 2005. The results will be published on the photo competition website.
Liability
All images are sent at the photographers' risk, and the organizers regret they cannot accept liability for any loss or damage of any pictures entered in the competition (howsoever caused) nor for any other loss or damage resulting therefrom.
Competition judging
Images will be judged on creativity, how successfully they illustrate ABB's key themes, and technical & aesthetic quality. All images are judged anonymously on their merits, without consideration of the photographer or country.
1. The judges' decision is final and no discussion or correspondence can be entered into on their decision.
2. The judges reserve the right not to make any award.
3. The judges reserve the right to declare any entry void and declare the whole competition or category void should no entries meet the required standard.
4. Reasonable efforts will be made to notify all winners by post by 30 October 2005. Notification of the winning entries will also be available on the photo competition's website: www.abb.com/photocompetition.
5. ABB shall not be liable for any loss of, or damage to, any of the entries.
6. The English version of these rules shall be binding.
