ABB Power Products Medium Voltage to Increase Distribution Component Pricing

2008-12-03 - Effective January 1, 2009, ABB Inc. announces a general price increase averaging 8% on all products manufactured in the Greensboro, North Carolina, operation.

Increases on individual items will range from 0% to 10%, depending upon the specific product.

ABB will apply this price increase to all new quotations for products manufactured at the Greensboro, North Carolina, facility and delivered after January 5th, 2009. ABB will honor the prices on all existing orders and quotations through their validity date.

The ABB facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, manufactures various products for use in power distribution and capacitor banks. These products include fused and solid blade cutouts; disconnect, fused, and non-fused bypass switches; capacitor bank fuses; and the AutoLink sectionalizer.

As you may already know, many costs are rising that affect not just the materials of which the product is manufactured, but also the processes necessary to manufacture the product and ensure on-time delivery to our respective customers. We've held off as long as possible, but have found our volume has reached a point where it is necessary to offset the increased costs of doing business with a modest price increase. The much needed increase will allow us to continue to focus on the highest quality products, ensure quality in-house customer service, maintain the shortest lead times in the market place, and fulfill emergency orders at time of need. Efforts are always in place to diversify our supplier portfolio, and we are seeking new innovations that will allow us to better manage and work around these increasing costs.

To fulfill this commitment, ABB is investing in manufacturing technology and product innovation to ensure the highest value is delivered to customers worldwide. ABB has redesigned the overhead disconnect switch line with the latest technology, creating a switch family with excellent mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. In addition, ABB recently introduced the AutoLink single-phase electronic resettable sectionalizer. This means higher reliability, longer life-expectancy, reduced maintenance costs, and reduced risk of costly power outages. In the end, this translates into reduced lifetime costs for our customers and provides them with innovations required to support the “grid of the future”.

The following price increases will become effective on January 1, 2009:

• Cutouts Up to 10%
• Disconnect Switches 7%
• Capacitor Fuses 8%

Customers will be notified separately of the specific impact to them. Please contact your local ABB representative with any questions.
