Beijing, November 25, 2011 – ABB, the Top 500 Company, has recently won the “2011 China Red Star Design Award” jointly conferred by Beijing Industrial Design Center (BIDC) and China Industrial Design Association (CIDA) for its Electrical Wiring Accessories (EWA) Uni-art series. This is the second time for ABB to receive one of the most prestigious awards in China’s design community, following the 2010 winning for its universal power socket with USB charger.
Wang Zhongdan, General Manager of ABB LV Installation Materials Co., Ltd. Beijing, said, “Developed and designed locally by ABB R&D team in China, the ABB EWA Uni-art series boasts exceptional quality and distinct design. This award has attested to the industry’s recognition of ABB’s R&D achievement in China. ABB has been committed to development of local R&D strength and development and innovation of new technologies. Our efforts have been enriching ABB’s product line whilst contributing to China’s design community.”
For the Uni-art series, IML, a unique injection molding manufacturing technology, is adopted for product frames. Delivering a hardened crystal clear film on the product surface, this technology makes for long-lasting fastness of printed pattern under the film and a stunning stereoscopic effect, as well as prodigious resistance to wear, imperviousness and esthetics. Employed for switch socket products for the first time by ABB, IML is mostly used for housing of notebook computers and mobile phones and interior of automotive dashboards. Featuring a golden ratio shape design, Uni-art products allow free combination of inner and outer frames with panel and highlights, where the former provide eight kinds of visual texture represented by wood, leather, fabrics, marble and metal and the latter come in nine colors including red, yellow, green, blue, white and fluorescence. For the Uni-art series, tin-phosphor bronze materials are used for copper sheet, enabling high strength, good electrical conductivity and resistance to deformation and a service life of more than 5,000 cycles. The ultra-thin design needs installation thickness of only 6.5mm in wall mounting, 35 percent lower than that of conventional products. Moreover, the creative 90-degree dial satisfies diversified consumer needs.
Since its debut in early 2009, the Uni-art series with outstanding quality and personalized design has been well received in China’s home furnishing market in a short period of time and is popular with consumers seeking a stylish, high-quality lifestyle. It was recognized as one of the “Most Fashionable Household Products of 2009” by the Trends Home magazine. To date, Uni-art products have been successfully used in a number of high-profile residential and commercial real estate projects in China.
China Red Star Design Award, one of the most prestigious honors in design community, has been conferred for six years by BIDC and CIDA to a number of renowned manufacturers such as Siemens, Panasonic, 3M and Lenovo. This year sees 240 winners including the ABB EWA Uni-art series selected from 5,268 entries from 1,135 companies.
