Jointly established by ABB and Siert with an annual capacity of 150 units
Beijing, March 1, 2011 –ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has announced the completion of a robotic system integration base in Chengdu, jointly established by ABB and Xiamen Siert Robot System Company, one of China’s largest robotic system integrators. The facility is the first of its kind in the country’s western region. With an annual integrating capacity of 150 units, the new facility will mainly provide welding robotic automation solutions for manufacturers in China’s western region to improve their production processes and standards.
Robotic system integration involves customized total solutions covering robotic products, software, and relevant services. The new base, covering 3,000 square meters in Chengdu Wenjiang Cross-straits Science and Technology Park – one of the national key industrial areas – is engaged in design and manufacturing of welding robotic systems with a focus on automatic welding equipment for auto parts and the engineering machinery industry. ABB is responsible for providing robotic products and relevant technical support and Siert for product integration and sales.
Dr. Chunyuan Gu, head of ABB’s robotics business unit in China, said, “Chengdu is a key city in China’s western region. Through our cooperation with Siert, we hope to expand our robotics business throughout the entire western region, getting closer to local customers and providing them with timely, all-round service. Siert’s advantages in robotic system integration can help ABB further develop the local market.”
Qimin Sun, chairman of Siert Robot System Company, said, “ABB is an industry leader with extensive experience and great strength in robotic technology. Over the years, ABB has provided us with a full range of support, helping us successfully address challenges in the development stage and achieve fast growth in a short period of time. The trustworthy, dedicated strategic partnership between ABB and Siert is an important contributor to Siert’s brilliant success.”
ABB is a pioneer and leader in robotic technology, boasting the broadest range of robotic products, technologies and services. ABB invented the world’s first industrial robot in 1974. In 2002, the company became the first industrial robot manufacturer with sales of over 100,000 units. ABB has installed more than 190,000 robotic units worldwide. China has always been a key region for ABB’s robotics business. To date, ABB is the only multinational company to conduct manufacturing and R&D for industrial robotic products in China. The company relocated its global robotics business headquarters from Detroit to Shanghai in 2006.
Headquartered in Xiamen, Fujian Province, Xiamen Siert Robot System Company is one of China’s largest robotic system integrators. Siert became a strategic partner of ABB’s robotics business unit in 2008. The company focuses on design and manufacturing of automatic arc welding, cutting, and handling equipment featuring industrial robots catering to customers in the engineering and construction machinery and automobile industries. In the field of hydrocylinder robotics systems welding, Siert robotic equipment, integrating ABB robotic products, occupies 80 percent of the market share in China. These systems boast a pass rate of 99.98 percent, while similar equipment integrating other robotic systems delivered by competing companies have a pass rate of only 80 percent.
ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact.
