Advanced power technologies help the Three Gorges project
Beijing, China, January 13, 2005 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that it has won a $7.43 million order from the Power Grid Development Brand of State Grid Corporation of China to supply AC filters for Shanghai Huaxin Converter Station (Baihe) of the Three Gorges-Shanghai high voltage direct current (HVDC) project.
"This is the latest in a series of orders for powering the Three Gorges project in China," said Bernd Muehe, head of ABB’s Power Technologies business in China. "Our advanced power products and technology, firm understanding of customers'needs and fast delivery helped us win the trust of our customer. This order reinforces our leading position in Chinese market."
Under the terms of contract, ABB will deliver AC filters for Huaxin Converter Station. They will be supplied by ABB Xi'an Power Capacitor Co., Ltd and the delivery will take place in September of 2005.
Muehe said the contract was the result of the excellent work done by the sales and marketing teams of the company. "They showed high efficiency in the process of pre-bidding, bidding and clarification."
This is the third AC capacitor order won by the ABB in Xi'an since its establishment in 2000. The first was the AC filters order for the Three Gorges-Guangdong HVDC project and the second for the Guizhou-Guangdong HVDC project.
