ABB committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and gains recognition for outstanding contributions to society
Beijing, July 5, 2010 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, won a Special Contribution Award in CSR at the 2010 China CSR Annual Conference, organized by the China Charity Federation in association with China Enterprise News and other organizations.
During the 6-month selection process, 500 candidate companies were selected from the 1000 nominees. After an investigation, the companies were further narrowed down to 200, and subjected to jury grading according to the corporate data and information collected. Finally, the top 100 companies were ranked on the 2010 list, and the most outstanding 50 companies received a special award for their great contributions.

ABB has always been dedicated to CSR through initiation and participation in a variety of public programs in education for poverty alleviation, environment protection and climate change, humanitarian aids and community development, maximizing its role as a corporate citizen.
Whenever a major disaster has occurred in China, ABB has always provided timely support to the stricken areas. This April, after the Yushu earthquake in Qinghai province, ABB promptly donated 2.6 million RMB to the Qinghai Branch of the China Red Cross Society, including 1.03 million RMB raised by ABB employees. Also in April, ABB dedicated the first two schools it sponsored as part of its support of post-earthquake reconstruction in Sichuan. A total of 2,500 students from Gaoping Town ABB Middle School and Jiqing Town ABB Primary School moved into the modern classrooms built with the financial support of ABB. The second pair of ABB-sponsored schools is expected to be finished in October.
This May, ABB donated 1 million RMB to the ABB-New Great Wall Fund for College Students. Over the past six years, ABB has provided a total of 6 million RMB for this initiative, benefiting about 1,500 college students in 37 colleges and universities across the country.
Also in May, ABB donated 1 million RMB to elderly nursing homes in Shanghai to improve living conditions and provide senior residents with better care. Over the course of a previous 3-year CSR program, ABB donated another 1 million RMB and local ABB staff have regularly visited the nursing homes, filling the nursing homes with laughter and happiness. Approximately 250 ABB employees have volunteered more than 1,000 hours to these activities.
2010 also marks the third year of the company’s anti-desertification program, jointly launched with Inner-Mongolia Power Company’s (IMPC) Ordos Power Supply Bureau (OPSB) to reforest the Maowusu desert in Inner-Mongolia. More than 2,000 mu of desert are reforested thanks to the program. It anchors the dunes and eliminates the threat to nearby high-voltage power lines, ensuring the reliability of the power supply to the Inner Mongolia power grid while safeguarding the environment of the local people. The green belt also improves ecological conditions in Beijing.
The 2010 China CSR Annual Conference was jointly sponsored and organized by the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, the China Charity Federation, the China Private Economic Association (CPEA) and China Enterprise News. Under an open and fair selection process, the research group examined the applications submitted by the candidate companies as well as public data and records, selecting 200 companies out of a total of 500 candidate companies. The jury graded the 200 nominees using a professional evaluation system to finalize the Top 100 Companies for the 2010 China CSR ranking. The Top 30 domestic enterprises and Top 20 foreign enterprises on the list received the 2010 Special Contribution Award in CSR.
