ABB to provide reliable and energy-efficient power solutions for 7 SOHO real estate projects
Vacuum cast coil dry-type transfomers
Shanghai, December 3, 2013 -- ABB, the world leader in power and automation technologies announced that it would provide 114 dry-type transformers to SOHO China Co., Ltd between 2013 to 2015. Under the contract ABB will supply stable and reliable products to seven major SOHO real estate projects being developed in Beijing and Shanghai, including the new Bund SOHO in Shanghai.
The Bund SOHO project is located in the south central portion of the Bund near a transportation hub and marina, with a total area of 22,462 square meters. Construction is expected to be completed at the end of 2014, making the area a new landmark feature of Shanghai’s Bund.
Bernd Muehe, Head of ABB Power Products Division, North Asia and China, said, “China needs a lot of high-performance power products to ensure reliable power supplies during transmission and distribution. As the world’s leading supplier of power transmission and distribution technologies, ABB is committed to helping various industries meet the growing demand for electricity while reducing the impact on the environment. Our products and solutions help customers to achieve intelligent upgrading through smart technology.”
As for the Bund SOHO project, ABB will supply the whole series of dry-type transformers with a voltage ranging from 10kV to 35kV. The 35kV dry-type transformer with winding glass fiber reinforced resin coating is known for its mechanical strength and good heat dissipation; while the 10kV dry-type transformer, manufactured through a vacuum pouring process, has a strong capacity to withstand short circuiting and over-loading. Meanwhile, the safety coil design ensures long-term reliable operation in harsh environmental conditions. Compared with similar transformer products, it also reduces no-load losses by 10 percent, making it more environmentally friendly.
As transformers are the core units of the whole power transformation system, their quality, safety performance and failure rate play a vital role in the power system of the whole building. Once the transformers are put into use, they will work for decades or even longer, during which it should handle various tests including extreme weather, load fluctuations and load-side short circuiting. Residential and commercial buildings have high requirements for power supply reliability. Power failure can result in the failure of air conditioning, elevators or other electrical equipment and directly impact user safety and comfort.
ABB provides transformer products, including dry-type and oil-immersed transformers up to 1200kV, as well as related parts and services. From the selection of raw materials to the design and manufacturing process, ABB's transformers undergo strict quality control and have been tested in China for more than 20 years. ABB’s dry-type transformers have been successfully used in Shanghai’s Shimao International Plaza, World Financial Center and other landmarks and commercial buildings.
